Electrical Testing

From the 1st of January 2012, what is currently known as a Periodic Inspection report will change and become an Electrical Installation Condition Report. The new format of the report is designed in a more Customer friendly manner that allows customers to fully understand the report and overall the condition of their electrical installation. AC Gold is well placed to assist you in providing an Electrical Installation Condition Report.
This report is necessary because all electrical installations deteriorate due to a number of factors such as damage, wear, tear, corrosion, excessive electrical loading, ageing and environmental influence. In the case that an installation has deteriorated it leaves people working and living around it vulnerable to electric shock and potential electrical fires.

As a leading electrical contractor we make it our responsibility to make safe any dangerous electrical works discovered. We also offer a full remedial works quotation for all defaults that are discovered during the periodic inspection and test. We can provide an on the spot repair service, or a planned electrical maintenance package which would see the upgrading of your electrical system carried out over a period of time to suit your electrical maintenance budget.
If the electrical installation has any faults, they will be listed under the section of observations and recommendations and will be given one of the following codes:

  • code one – requires urgent attention
  • code two – requires improvement
  • code three – requires further investigation
  • code four – does not comply with current BS7671 standards

When should you have this test carried out?
IEE recommends the maximum time between periodic inspections to be as follows;

Type of premises Time before next test
Commercial premises max 5 years

Places of public entertainment and theatres max 3 years
Leisure complexes (excluding swimming pools) max 3 years
Swimming pools max 1 years

In addition to this both domestic and commercial properties should have this test carried out;

  • Upon a change of occupancy of the premises.
  • Upon a change of use of the premises.
  • If you have made any alterations/ additions to the original electrical wiring.
  • Where there is reason to believe that damage may have been caused to the electrical installation for example after flooding.

Did you know…

  • That around 2.5million people per year receive a mains voltage electric shock and 350,000 of them resulted in serious injury? *
  • That 49% of homes in UK do not have an adequate RCD protection at the consumer unit? *
